Published on June 19, 2026The Bangladesh Awami League was born out of the demands of its time and with the mission of shaping history. On this day in 1949, the party was founded at Rose Garden in Old Dhaka under historic circumstances. It would later go on to lead Bangladesh’s struggle for independence and play a central role in the nation’s major achievements.
Through decades of challenges, sacrifices, and continuous struggle, the Awami League has fought for the rights of the people and worked to improve their lives. Considering its history, heritage, struggles, accomplishments, and contributions, the Bangladesh Awami League stands as the most successful political institution in the country’s history.
June 23 marks the 77th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Awami League. The party has announced the following programs to observe the occasion:
Commemorative Programs
* Tribute at the historic Bangabandhu Memorial House premises at Dhanmondi 32.
* Tribute and prayers at Banani Graveyard in memory of those martyred on August 15 and during the Jail Killing of November 3.
* Tribute at the Mausoleum of the Father of the Nation in Tungipara, followed by prayer gatherings at the complex mosque and in mosques across the country after Zuhr prayers.
* Special prayers at temples, churches, and pagodas nationwide, along with food distribution among underprivileged people.
Organizational Programs
* Processions carrying national and party flags across Dhaka and throughout the country on the anniversary day.
* Appropriate observance of the day by all levels and branches of the party through suitable programs.
Public Outreach
To mark the anniversary, the central Awami League and its affiliated organizations will conduct poster campaigns, leaflet distribution, and wall-writing programs. Leaders, activists, and supporters at all levels will also use a common profile picture on social media platforms.
Central Discussion Meeting
June 23: A virtual discussion meeting of the Bangladesh Awami League, to be held according to the schedule of the party’s President, Sheikh Hasina, who will attend as the chief guest and preside over the event.

* June 24: Virtual discussion meeting of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
* June 25: Discussion meeting of Bangladesh Swechchhasebak League.
* June 26: Virtual discussion meeting of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League.
* June 27: Virtual discussion meeting of Bangladesh Krishak League.
* June 28: Virtual discussion meeting of Jatiya Sramik League and Mohila Sramik League.
* June 29: Virtual discussion meeting of Jubo Mohila League.
* June 30: Virtual discussion meeting of Mohila Awami League.
July 1: Nationwide Protest Program
A nationwide protest and demonstration will be held against the verdict delivered by what the party describes as an illegal ICT court against Sheikh Hasina, and demanding the abolition of that court.
