Bangladesh’s soil would never be used against neighbours: HPM Sheikh Hasina

She said Bangladesh is maintaining the commitment strongly side by side making stride to change the lot of the people.

The Prime Minister said this when visiting Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army General Bipin Rawat made a courtesy call on her at her official residence Gonobhaban here this evening.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister thanked General Rawat for visiting Bangladesh. With gratitude she recalled contribution of India particularly Indian army to the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina said her government's major task is poverty alleviation and combating terrorism. She laid importance on cooperation between the two countries in nuclear power.

The Indian army chief praised the ongoing development of Bangladesh saying, "We are happy to see stable Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."

Pointing out the ongoing 'joint cycling expedition' of the two countries, General Rawat said the two armies have very excellent relations. He laid importance on strengthening army to army cooperation between Bangladesh and India.

"We value our friendship with Bangladesh and we deal everything with equal status. Size of the country doesn't matter here," General Rawat said adding Bangladesh and Indian armies have equal status in all fields.

Pointing out many commonalities between the two countries, the Indian army chief said both of us can move forward with good relationship. He also praised the execution of the land boundary agreement between Bangladesh and India.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt. Gen. Md Mahfuzur Rahman, PM's Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Joynal Abedin and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla were present on the occasion.
