The initial proposal was to set up in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Sylhet and Barisal divisions involving Taka 1,391 crore, said Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal at a briefing after the Tuesday's meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at NEC-I conference room.
He, however, said the ECNEC Chairperson and the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the authorities concerned to include Mymensingh into the project to set up BTV centre for the newly announced administrative division.
So, the incorporation of Mymensingh will raise the total centers to six.
The ECNEC has also approved a total of seven development projects with an outlay of Taka 5,238 crore. Of the total cost, the government will provide Taka 3,455 while organizations concerned will contribute Taka 55.90 crore from own fund and Taka 1,727 crore would come as project assistance.
About the BTV's centers, the planning minister said Chinese government would provide Taka 988 crore and the remaining cost would be borne by the government to implement the project by 2022.
Another project is for Dhaka City Corporations to modernize, development and plantation of open places. Under the project, a total of 22 parks, four playing fields and open places would be made usable for city dwellers.
Apart from the development of park, 73 modern and hygienic public toilets in busy areas in Dhaka North City Corporation and four slaughter houses would be constructed along with development and beautification of 15 foot over bridges and four grave yards.
Mustafa Kamal said the Prime Minister has directed for proper coordination with LGD and other organizations to avoid repetition or separate projects for road development in same area.
Other projects approved by the ECNEC are: Leveraging ICT for growth, employment and governance project ( Taka 754 crore), project for making rural road sustainable (Taka 1,238 crore), rural infrastructure development of greater Patuakhali district (Taka 492 crore), land acquisition for economic zone (Araihazar and Mirersarai) (Taka 761 crore) and development of Jessore-Khulna highway (Palbari-Rajghat) (Taka 321 crore).
Ministers, state ministers, members of planning commission and secretaries concerned were present at the ECNEC meeting.
