After the meeting at The Leela Goa hotel following a ceremonial dinner, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque told reporters, "Bangladesh will stand by India when the issue is development. And India will also stand by Bangladesh."
He said the meeting was held in a "very friendly environment".
Modi praised Bangladesh for its stance against terrorism and asked Hasina how she "succeeded" in battling terrorism and militancy, Haque said.
The Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Hasina credited ‘public awareness’ against terrorism for the ‘success’ her government achieved so far.
"She said the awareness against terrorism is being created at family level. Even imams are speaking against terrorism at mosques," Karim said.
"The prime minister also said the people were also responding (to government call against terrorism)," he added.
Regarding the sharing of the Teesta river water, he said "The Indian prime minister told our prime minister that 'We will resolve all the problems together'."
He said the Bangladesh side was hopeful of getting "fair" share of water from Teesta.
He also said Sheikh Hasina may visit India on a bilateral tour in December.
"The foreign ministry is working on the matter," he said.
