ECNEC approves "Elenga-Hatikamrul-Rangpur Highway Four-Lane Upgradation" project

The approval came at the meeting of the ECNEC held in the NEC conference room in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

"Of the total projects cost, the government will provide Taka 3,368.09 crore from the national exchequer while the remaining Taka 9,525.92 crore will be available as project assistance," Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told journalists after the meeting.

He said Roads and Highways Department under the Roads and Highways Division will implement the SASEC Road Link Project-11: Elenga-Hatikamrul-Rangpur Highway Four-Lane Upgradation project by August 2021 at a cost of Taka 11,881.13 crore.

"Of the project cost, Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide Taka 9,339.92 crore as project assistance while Taka 2,541.21 crore will come from the national exchequer," he added.

Under the project, the Elenga-Hatikamrul-Rangpur highway, which is also a part of the national highway, would be upgraded into four-lane, said Mustafa Kamal adding that the highway will make easy the sub regional road communication with India and Bhutan.
Under the project, three flyovers of 2,635 meters, railway overpass of 411 meters, 32 bridges, 161 culverts, 11 overpasses, 39 underpasses and one interchange will be constructed, he added.

The other projects approved at the meeting are Meteorological radar development of Dhaka and Rangpur with Tk 208.57 crore, Establishment of Innovation and Entrepreneurs Development Academy with Tk 229.74 crore, BSCIC electrical commodity production and light engineering industrial estate with Tk 213.26 crore, BSCIC industrial estate at Raozan with Tk 79.84 crore, Construction of link road from Sirajuddowla Road to Shah Amanat Bridge (Bakolia Access) with Tk 205.47 crore and Re-Excavation of Bhodra and Salta Rivers to solve water logging problems of Khulna district with Tk 76 crore.

Ministers and state ministers attended the meeting. Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned were present.
