Norwegian ambassador said these while she paid a farewell visit to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office here on Wednesday morning.

In the meeting, prime minister sought Norwegian support to further develop and expand Bangladesh's aquaculture and shipbuilding sectors for mutual benefits.

"We want Norway's cooperation in developing our fisheries sector with its technologies, projects and ventures in breeding fingerling, fishery management, and taking up joint ventures in marine aquaculture projects in Bangladesh's coastal regions," she said.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Highlighting Bangladesh's progress in the shipbuilding and ship recycling sector, Sheikh Hasina said that her government would set up a new shipyard in southern part of the country. "Norway can come up and build their own shipyard there . . . we would provide them with land," she said.

The Norwegian envoy lauded the progress of Bangladesh's shipbuilding industry, saying that two of their ships were being built in Chittagong while negotiation is on to construct four more.

The Norwegian envoy said that during her stay in Bangladesh, she has seen tremendous development in this South Asia country, especially in poverty alleviation.

"Improving the conditions of people was outstanding," she added.

Extending her thanks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the steps taken after the recent terrorist attacks in Bangladesh, Merete said that some 77 people, most of them children, were killed in similar attack in Norway five years back. "Norway will always stay beside Bangladesh in its fight against terrorism," the envoy said.
