Published on July 9, 2016After the Eid prayers, imams in their special sermons (Khutbas) also called on the people to understand the real meaning of Islam and resist the vested quarters involved in misinterpreting the religion of peace and carrying out destructive activities to destabilise the country.
They also advised the people to remain cautious about their children and report immediately to police if they notice any usual movement and behaviour of their children.
At the country's main Eid congregation at National Eidgah in Dhaka city, President Abdul Hamid along with hundreds of people from all strata offered Eid prayers.
Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Mizanur Rahman conducted the Eid prayers and the special munajat, seeking divine blessings for peace, progress and welfare of the country and its people and wellbeing of the Muslim Ummah.
At the end of all the five Eid congregations at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, the imams also advised people to remain alert against the destructive activities and build social resistance against militancy.
Similarly, the imams at Eid congregations across the country suggested people to stand firm against the people who are trying to destabilise the country in the name of Islam.
The devotees also sought divine blessings of Almighty Allah to help strengthen national unity against all odds and destructive activities, including terrorism and militancy.
The country's largest Eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district with lakhs of Muslims offering the prayers seeking divine blessings, peace and progress for Bangladesh and the Muslim Ummah.
Two policemen, one suspected extremist and a woman were killed while 12 people injured as unidentified militants launched a bomb attack near the Sholakia Eid Jamaat ground, minutes before the start of the congregation.
Following the terror attack, Islamic scholar and Sholakia Eid Jamaat imam Maulana Fariduddin Masud said the consequent militant attacks were aimed to weaken the natural social resistance against militants panicking people.
He urged people not to get panicked saying "that will benefit the militants in achieving their goal" while "united social resistance was now the most crucial necessity to uproot the extremists".
Talking to the media at Eid reception, President Hamid said the appeal of Eid-ul-Fitr is unique to build a peaceful and friendly society as all people including the rich, poor, elite and disadvantaged stand in the same line on this day.
While talking to the media after exchanging Eid greetings at her official Ganobhaban residence on the Eid day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the guardians to take steps to bring back their missing sons home. The government, she said, would extend all cooperation to find their missing boys and for their treatment.
The Prime Minister also asked the authorities of the colleges and universities to inform the police about the students who remained absent from their classes for a long time. The guardians may keep their identity secret while disclosing the names of their children.
