HPM Sheikh Hasina inaugurates Bangladesh embassy complex at Tokyo

During the event, she said Bangladesh and Japan hold special relations with the South East Asian nation the largest development partner of the South Asian country.

“We are indeed very proud to have our own address at the heart of historic city of Tokyo,” she said inaugurating the Bangladesh Embassy complex at Kioicho, Chiyoda-ku in central Tokyo on 714 square meters of land at the cost of around Tk 100 crore.

Bangladesh ambassador to Japan Rabab Fatima gave the welcome address, while secretary general of Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League Ichiro Tasukada, MP, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Seiji Kihara also spoke during the programme.

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Sheikh Rehana, younger sister of the Prime Minister Hasina, were also present on the occasion.

Prime Minister pointed out that the foundation of the friendship with Japan was laid down with the visit of Bangabandhu in 1973.

The premier recalled Japan’s contribution to the War of Liberation in 1971, particularly raising fund by Japanese children to support Bangladesh during the war.

Japan came up with all support to rebuild the war-ravaged country, she said adding that the Japanese government and every people of the country extended their supporting hand to us.

She said her government always tries to keep the ties stronger between the two countries. She referred to Bangladeshi projects including Hotel Sonargaon, Bangabandhu Bridge, Rupsha Bridge and Padma Bridge among others supported by Japan.

Japan is constructing a coal-based power plant at Matarbari in Moheshkhali of Cox’s Bazar district and providing help in metro rail project and other infrastructural development of Bangladesh, she added.

Bangladesh Premier thanked the Japanese Prime Minister for inviting her to the G7 meeting creating a opportunity to her to visit Japan again and inauguration of own embassy house of Bangladesh in Tokyo, which she laid foundation in 2010.
