ECNEC approves nine development projects including Cross-Border Road Network

The road network improvement project involving Taka 2,472.93 crore would ensure uninterrupted and safe regional and sub-regional road communication system.

The approval came at the 28th meeting of the ECNEC in the current fiscal held at the NEC conference room on Tuesday in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, after the meeting, briefed newsmen about the outcome.

"Of the total project cost of Taka 6,100 crore, the government would provide Taka 2,543 crore from the national exchequer while the organization concerned would contribute Taka 155.22 crore from own funds and the remaining Taka 3,400 crore would come as project assistance," he said.

Talking about the cross-border road network improvement project, the planning minister said wrecked roads and bridges near Bangladesh-India border would be developed under the project, as Asian Highway has run through the country.

Replying to a query, Mustafa Kamal said: "Now we are prioritizing the establishment of economic zones and we've planned to set up 100 economic zones across the country."

Mentioning the directives of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina, he said the PM has directed to educate the students with new subjects such as hotel management, hospitality, catering, solar energy etc. "Now, we would put strong concentration in this issue."

The other projects approved by the ECNEC are: Construction of Pani (Water) Building (TK 210.94cr), Development of Rural Infrastructures in Kishoreganj District (TK 347.24 cr), Construction of Land Port Headquarters in City's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar (TK 34.50cr), Widening of Dinajpur-Chirisbandar-Parbateepur Road (TK 45.27cr),

Aminbazar-Mawa-Mongla 400KV Transmission Line (TK 1,365cr), Protecting Tajumuddin Upazila Headquarters from the Erosion of Meghna River (TK 449.39cr), Bangladesh Economic Zone Development Project, Phase-I (22.50cr) and Development of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (TK 277.50cr).

Ministers and state ministers attended the meeting while members of planning commission and secretaries concerned were present.
