Published on March 15, 2016Sheikh Hasina expressed the hope when visiting Mother Queen of Bhutan Tshering Pem Wangchuck made a courtesy call on her at Gonobhaban here on Tuesday evening, PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said after the meeting.
The Prime Minister said Bhutan has a special place in the hearts of Bangladeshi people as the first country that recognized Bangladesh's independence in 1971. She expressed happiness at the increase of engagement of the two countries in various areas, including people-to- people contact.
Sheikh Hasina recalled her past visits to Bhutan and said she was very happy at the birth of his Royal Highness Gyalsey (the prince).
"I'm also happy that His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen have bestowed on me the honour of grandmother-ship of their son," the Prime Minister said.
The Bhutanese Mother Queen expressed happiness over the excellent relations between the two countries, saying she is amazed at the social and economic development of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
She hoped that the relations would be further strengthened in the coming days.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented her an album containing the photos on the visit of King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, husband of Queen Mother and father of present King, in Bangladesh in 1974.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, PM's Advisor Dr Gowher Rizvi, PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan Jisnu Roy Chowdhury and Bhutanese envoy in Dhaka Aum Pema Choden were present.
Later, the Queen Mother joined a dinner hosted in her honour by the Prime Minister at Gonobhaban.
