BPO Summit to kick-off tomorrow, first time in Bangladesh

The ICT Division in association with Bangladesh Association of Call Centre and Outsourcing (BACCO) is going to host the event for the first time in the country with an aim to brand Bangladesh as an ideal place for investment and business management.

The summit will be held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is expected to inaugurate the event.

At a press conference held at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) in the capital yesterday, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said for the development of the country, there is no other alternative to ICT.

“Laying importance to it, our government has taken a lot of projects relating to ICT after taking office in 2009.”

The junior minister said several programmes have been taken up for the next two days to promote the outsourcing sector.

“We will set up 554 BPO centres across the country. 2,50,000 students graduate every year and the government will arrange training for most of them to facilitate their entry to ICT jobs.”

The organisers have also arranged a spot interview for job seekers while 200 students will get appointment letter for call centre jobs.

According to the organisers, they have invited over 40 prominent local and international famous personalities in ICT sector as speakers for different sessions.

At present 25,000 people are working in this sector. India earns US$80 billion, Philippine US$16 billion and Sri Lanka US$2 billion every year from this sector.

Shyam Sunder Sikder, secretary to the ICT Division, Ahmadul Haque Boby, president of BACCO, Wahid Sharif, general secretary, Aminul Haque, joint secretary, were, among others, present at the press conference.
