"We want to reopen the roads through border with India that remained closed since India-Pakistan war in 1965...it would help further enhance the people-to-people contact and connectivity between Bangladesh and India," she said.
The Prime Minister expressed this view when a delegation of School of Business, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, India called on her at her official Ganobhaban residence here this evening.
Dean of the School of Business Dr Alaka Sharma led the team.
After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
Laying emphasis on further raising the people-to-people contact between the two countries, Sheikh Hasina said economic activities between Bangladesh and India have already been boosted due to various steps taken by the two countries.
In this connection, she mentioned the setting up of border haats by the two countries.
While talking about the Dhaka-Shilong-Guwahati bus service, the Prime Minister said it would help increase the people-to-people contact and trade and commerce between the two countries.
Dwelling on the issue of signing the historic Land Boundary Agreement, Sheikh Hasina said all members of Indian Parliament--both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha -- were seen for the first time "one and united" during the ratification of the particular bill.
The Prime Minister recalled with deep gratitude the unequivocal support and assistance rendered by the Indian people and government during Bangladesh's War of Liberation.
At the meeting, Dr Alaka Sharma highly appreciated the steps taken by the two countries to strengthen connectivity in the region.
Underscoring the need for exchanging students and teachers, she said there is a tremendous scope for the two countries to work together in the fields of ICT and healthcare.
The delegation also highly praised the visionary and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, saying that Bangladesh witnessed excellent socioeconomic uplift under her leadership.
Prime Minister's International Affairs Advisor Dr Gowher Rizvi, PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and PM's Special Assistant Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap were present.
