Published on November 17, 2015After the meeting on Tuesday, the Indian Home Secretary, Rajiv Mehrishi, made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban, where she also laid emphasis on further strengthening the Indo-Bangla cooperation in other areas.
PM's Press Secretary Ehsanul Karim during a press briefing said the Prime Minister expressed her satisfaction over the successful home-secretary level talks between the two countries.
The home secretaries said apart from road communication, they also talked about the coastal shipping and signing a "standard operative procedure" on it.
The prime minister drew the attention of the Indian home secretary on slow movement of transports through the Bangla Bandh land port. The Indian home secretary assured her of taking proper steps in this regard.
The Indian home secretary shared his experience with the prime minister on visiting Bangladesh, particularly the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road no 32 in the capital. The museum is a symbol of history, he said.
Sheikh Hasina highlighted the memories of Bangabandhu with the house saying he (Bangabandhu) led the nation for independence from this home, where he also lived as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
"The subsequent governments after 1975 tried to change the address of the road. But the people of the country know it as Dhanmondi House on Road no 32," she said.
The press secretary said Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran, who accompanied the Indian home secretary, informed the Prime Minister about yesterday's fruitful meeting between the water resources ministers of the two countries in New Delhi on water issues.
He also informed the prime minister that the first batch of the now defunct enclave people would be shifted to India from Bangladesh tomorrow.
The Indian envoy also informed Sheikh Hasina about a meeting of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with British parliament member and niece of Sheikh Hasina, Tulip Siddiqui and her husband during Modi's recent London visit.
PM's Advisor on International Affairs Dr Gowher Rijvi, PM's Principal Secretary ABul Kalam Azad and home secretary M Mozammel Haq Khan were present.
