Published on October 25, 2015The Prime Minister said this when the newly appointed ambassador of Turkey, Devrim Ozturk, made a courtesy call on her at her office here on Sunday.
PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister welcomed the new ambassador and expressed satisfaction over the cordial and close ties between the two brotherly countries with shared history, faith, culture and values.
Sheikh Hasina said Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TIKA) is supporting Bangladesh in the areas of technical and vocational education and community health clinics.
Putting emphasis on regional road Connectivity, she said initiatives are there to develop communication among the neighbours like BBIN countries -- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal.
The Prime Minister mentioned Bangladesh's cooperation in the defense sector with Turkey and said as many of the country's officers are taking training in Turkey.
Sheikh Hasina mentioned some incidents of bomb attack and terrorist acts over the years, saying after taking office in 2009, her government has taken firm stance against terrorism.
In this regard, the Turkish ambassador said international solidarity and cooperation is essential for combating terrorism. He also thanked the Prime Minister for expressing her condolences and sympathy to Turkish people at the loss of lives in recent bomb blasts.
Ozturk said that while discharging his duties in Bangladesh, he would work for promoting further bilateral relations between the two countries.
Noting that there is enough scope for cooperation between the two countries in health and education sectors, the ambassador appreciated the farsighted "Vision 2021" of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to turn Bangladesh into a digital country.
The Turkish envoy also put emphasis on high-level exchange of visits and holding of Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meetings since the last meeting was held in 2012.
He also emphasized the need for further strengthening the economic cooperation between the two countries and the bilateral trade volume that now stands at $ 1.3 billion.
