During a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office here today the envoy hoped that Bangladesh in the coming days would get more direst investment from Japan.
PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister urged the Japanese envoy to exploit the opportunities given by her government to facilitate foreign investment saying special economic zones are being constructed where Japanese investors can find place for their factories to relocate.
The prime minister congratulated the new envoy and welcomed him expressing the hope that the relations between the Bangladesh and Japan in the areas of economy, culture, education, agriculture and infrastructure development would be strengthened in coming days.
Saying that Japan is one of the major development partners of Bangladesh since its independence the prime minister said her government's first and foremost priority agenda is the country's development.
Pointing out the steps taken for development of various sectors the prime minister said her government has eyed on making Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041.
She said her government has given importance to connectivity to expedite economic growth. She sought more Japanese support in the fishery sector particularly harvesting and processing of Tuna fishes.
The Japanese envoy said after coming to Bangladesh he met Bangladesh agriculture minister and discussed the ways to strengthen the longstanding collaboration in this sector. He also pointed out Japanese assistance to Matarbari power project.
During the discussion Masato Watanabe mentioned about common issue of grief in the month of August saying the month is a month of mourning for the people of the both countries.
In Bangladesh Father of the Nation was brutally killed in this month in 1975 while Japan experienced tragic atomic bomb attack in this month in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, he said.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her happiness for translating the "Unfinished Memoirs of Bangabandhu" in Japanese language by a Japanese litterateur.
PMO secretary Suraiya Begum and foreign ministry officials were present at that time.
