Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan Road Link To Be Established Soon

Ministers concerned from the respective countries would meet in Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, in June next aimed to sign an agreement to this end, according to a message received here.

The decision came at a bilateral meeting between Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and Indian Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at Paribahan Bhaban in Delhi.

The two ministers discussed proposed agreements, progress of various projects and existing road network.

They discussed to launch bus service on Dhaka-Shilong-Gohati route on test basis on May 22 and agreed for signing an agreement in this regard.

Obaidul Quader said the Indian government has agreed to provide 500 trucks, 300 double-decker buses, 100 articulated buses and necessary machineries under the prospective second Line of Credit.

"We want to establish bridge of friendship by removing doubts and mistrusts between the two countries," he said.

The Indian minister emphasized on improvement of integrated transport and communication systems between the two countries for economic growth.

He hoped that the path of cooperation, development and progress with the two countries would be opened under Indian Prime Minister Naredra Modi.

During the meeting Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Delhi Salah Uddin Noman Chowdhury, first secretary Sheikh Shahriar Mosharraf were present.

Bangladesh minister is leading a seven-member delegation including Chief Engineer of Road Transport and Highways Department M Feroz Iqbal, Joint Secretary of the ministry Chandan Kumar Dey and Senior Information Officer Abu Naser.
