PM Requests Lithuanian Government To Import Products From Bangladesh

The Prime Minister came up with the request when non-resident Ambassador of Lithuania Laimonas Talat-Kelpsa paid a courtesy call on her at Ganobhaban here this evening.

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters.

He said the Prime Minister also stressed the need for increasing the people-to-people contact between the two countries, saying such initiative could benefit both the nations.

At the outset of the meeting, the Lithuanian Ambassador conveyed greetings of the President and the Prime Minister of his country to Sheikh Hasina.

The envoy also congratulated the Prime Minister on the occasion of her 34th Homecoming Day.

Laimonas Talat-Kelpsa highly appreciated Bangladesh for its role in the UN Peacekeeping Mission terming the country as the largest troops contributing nation in the peace mission. "It's an unique example in the world," he said.

He said there are many things Bangladesh and Lithuania could share, and both the countries could strengthen cooperation through sharing these things.

Talking about the 21st February that has been recognised as the International Mother Language Day worldwide, the Lithuanian Ambassador hoped that Bangla would be one of the official languages of the UN.

During the time, the Prime Minister said her government established the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka where all mother languages would be collected and preserved.

"Research activities would be carried out there on mother languages of nations across the world," she noted.

Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi and Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad were present, among others.
