Published on February 4, 2015Outgoing Iraqi Ambassador Shakir Qasim Mahdi said this during a farewell call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office today.
Briefing reporters after the call on, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury said the Iraqi envoy underscored the need for closer ties to boost bilateral trade and commerce.
The Prime Minister said since establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, Bangladesh and Iraq now have excellent relations. She hoped that the bilateral ties would grow further through strengthening people to people contact.
Sheikh Hasina urged the envoy to import more manpower from Bangladesh saying the government is now sending the manpower abroad after giving necessary training.
Shakir Qasim suggested foreign office consultations as well as exchange of visits of business delegations and government officials to boost ties between the two counties.
Shakir Qasim expressed his grief at the current political situation of Bangladesh saying his country doesn't want to see any such anarchy when Bangladesh is tremendously progressing ahead in all areas of economy and social development. He hoped that Bangladesh would be able to come out of this crisis.
Terming Bangladeshi manpower as hardworking, the Iraqi Ambassador said the manpower import from Bangladesh has been increased in the recent times.
Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Gowher Rijvi and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Abdus Sobhan Sikder, among others, were present.
