PM Urges Malaysian Govt to Boost Investment in Bangladesh

She made the request when visiting Malaysian International Trade and Industries Affairs Minister Mustapa Mohammed called on her at her official residence Ganobhaban here this evening.

After the meeting, PM's Press secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters.

He said that they discussed various issues relating to mutual interests including trade, business and investment. Currently the investment volume of Malaysia in Bangladesh is about US$ three billion, the press secretary said.

The Prime Minister said her government has created an investment-friendly congenial atmosphere to cut the trade gap between Bangladesh and Malaysia.

"The people of Bangladesh will get more benefit if the trade gap between Bangladesh and Malaysia is reduced," she said.

She also said that her government wants to facilitate the private sector of the country so that the relations between the entrepreneurs of the two counties are further strengthened.

Mustapa Mohammed highly appreciated Bangladeshi manpower working in Malaysia, saying they are very much hard-working, sincere and law-abiding.

He said there is a scope for further boosting the relations in the fields of trade, business and industries between the two brotherly counties. Regarding the existing huge trade gap, he said that it will be reduced to a great extent if the business forum of the two countries comes into effect.

The Malaysian minister highly praised the Bangladesh's achievements in different sectors under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In this connection, he mentioned that Bangladesh has been maintaining over six percent GDP growth in the last couple of years due to pragmatic steps of the governemnt.

Mustapa Mohammed conveyed the greetings of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Sheikh Hasina.

PM's Adviser on International Affairs Dr Gowher Rizvi, Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Norlin Othman and the Deputy CEO of Matrade, Dzulkifli Mahmud, were present among others during the meeting.
