Bangladesh hit the targets for reducing headcount poverty and the poverty gap ratio, reducing the number of underweight children under five years of age, attaining gender parity in primary and secondary education.

These findings came up in the Millennium Development Goals: Bangladesh Progress Report published by the Planning Commission yesterday.

For example, Bangladesh has already achieved its targets on cutting the number of poor and poverty gap ratio, and reducing under-five mortality rate under Goal-1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger.

Under Goal 2: Achieve Universal Primary Education, the country is on the right track to accomplish 100 percent enrolment ratio in primary education.

The target to ensure 100 percent enrolment ratio of girls to boys at primary and secondary education has already been achieved under Goal 3: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women.

Bangladesh will either achieve or remain on the right track to reach all the indicators under Goal 4: Reduce child mortality.
Bangladesh has witnessed a significant progress in reaching targets on bringing down maternal mortality ratio, and raising contraceptive prevalence and the proportion of births attended by skilled health personnel under Goal 5: Improving Maternal Health.

Five targets have been met under Goal 6: Combating HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases.
Majority of the people have been using improved sanitation facility in 2013 under Goal 7: Ensure Environmental sustainability.

However, Under Goal 8: Developing a Global Partnership for Development, Bangladesh has struggled to achieve environmental sustainability as it did not get enough financial assistance as promised by the global development partners.
