We Must Follow Lord Buddha’s Message Of Non-Violence To Ensure Country’s Advancement: PM

The Prime Minister was exchanging greetings with the Buddhist religious leaders and distinguished persons of the community on the occasion of the Buddha Prurnima at her official Ganobhaban residence here this afternoon.

Terming Bangladesh as a non-communal and peaceful country, the Prime Minister said the present government has ensured equal rights of the people of all religions upholding the spirit of the War of Liberation.

In this regard, she mentioned that as citizens of an independent country, the people of all faiths are living together with harmony and there is no scope for any sorts of conflict in the country.

Sheikh Hasina mentioned that her government believes in peace and hoped that each and everyone would come forward with helping hand at the time of the needs of others.

Extending heartiest greeting to the people of the Buddhist community on the occasion of the Buddha Purnima, Sheikh Hasina called upon all to work together to ensure advancement of the country by following the non-violent message of Lord Buddha.

The Prime Minister said Gautam Buddha used to foster equality, friendship, sacrifice, mercy and non-violence throughout his life. "He preached the message of peace," she added.

State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, former Industries Minister Dilip Barua, Secretary of the Religious Affairs Ministry Chowdhury Md Babul Hassan, Chairman of Bangladesh Bouddha Krishti Pracher Sangha Suddhananda Mahathero, Secreatary of the organization and Member of Awami League Advisory Council P K Barua, President of the CHT Bouddha Bhikhu Sangha Proggyananda Mahathero and Principal of the Ramu Central Bouddha Bihar Satya Priya Mahathero also spoke on the occasion, while vice chairman of the Buddhist Welfare Trust Sajal Kumar Talukdar gave the welcome address.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was worn an Uttario by the Buddhist delegation marking the Shubho Buddha Purnima.

The Buddhist leaders also handed over a greetings card to the Prime Minister on the occasion.
