Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, who is also in charge of the ministry of primary and mass education of the poll-time government, handed over the results of Prathomik Samaponi Examination to the Prime Minister. Prathomik Samaponi Examination is comprised of Primary School Certificate Examinations of the students of class five and Ebtedayee Final Examinations of Madrasa students. This year a total of 29,61,277 students including 15,48,984 female students took part in the Prathomik Samaponi Examination.
Out of them, 27,45,614 primary students came out successfully, Nurul Islam Nahid said. In the primary examination 2,40,961 students received GPA-5 while the number is 7,253 in the Ebtedayee examintion. The pass rate of primary examination is 98.58 percent while it is 95.80 in the Ebtedayee examination. This year Prathomik Somaponi Examination was started from 20th November, 2013 and was scheduled to end on November 28. But, due to hartal and siege programme of the opposition party, the date of many examinations had to change and the examination finally ended on December 6.
The Prime Minister extended her thanks to the officials, teachers and guardians for taking the hard efforts and hurdle they have taken to complete the examination and publish the result. The Prime Minister said the government has attached highest importance to education as a nation can not prosper without education.
She said school feeding programme has been introduced to reduce the dropout of students at primary level. One-room schools were upgraded to two or more rooms. Attention was given so that students can easily come to school in rural areas particularly hill areas, she added.
Sheikh Hasina said her party, if it comes to power again, would make the computer and technology based education compulsory at primary level. Secretary of primary and mass education Akhter Hossain and senior of officials of the ministry and primary and madrasa education boards were present.
