The 35th span of the Padma Bridge was installed on Saturday (31st October) bringing a total of over 5.2 kilometers of the huge structure into view as the construction works of 6.15 kilometers long bridge started from December 2014.
The span number ‘2B’ was installed on pillars no 8 and 9 at Mawa point, six days after the last one was installed.
Executive Engineer (Bridge) Dewan Md Abdul Quader confirmed the matter and said that the span-carrying ship ‘Tian E’ was anchored near the 8th and 9th poles, 1 km away from the Mawa Construction Yard at 9.20 am on Saturday.
After completing anchoring and other ancillary works, the span was set up at 2.40 pm, he added.
This month, 4 spans of the Padma Bridge were installed. The other six spans will be installed by December 10, the bridge construction authority said.
The 6.15 km long Padma Bridge will be constructed by placing 41 spans on 42 pillars. All the poles are already visible and 34 spans have already been set.
The main shape of the bridge will be two storey’s. The Padma Bridge became visible on September 30, 2017 with the installation of the first span on poles 36 and 37.
China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC) is working on the main bridge, and Sino Hydro Corporation is working on river management.
Abdul Momen Limited has constructed two connecting roads and infrastructures.
The Padma Bridge is expected to be opened in 2021.
