No one will suffer for food: Agriculture Minister

Agriculture Minister and Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League Dr Md Abdur Razzaque said the aim of the government is to ensure food for everyone.

He said, at present mill owners and wholesalers are indulged in conspiracies to make huge profits.

The minister made the remarks after laying the foundation stone of a flood shelter centre on the Ahmed Ali Memorial High School premises at Dhanbari in Tangail.

Razzaque said food production in the country continues despite the Coronavirus outbreak. But the production of Aman paddy faces risk due to prolonged floods, he said adding there is a fear that the production will not suffice.

For these reasons, he said, mill owners and wholesalers are out to make huge profits.

Describing Sheikh Hasina as an agriculture-friendly person, the minister said, under her leadership, the adoption of agri-friendly policies, subsidization of agricultural inputs, including fertilizer, seed and irrigation, and improved innovation and cultivation of crops have resulted in unprecedented development in food production in the country.

He continued the aim of the government is to ensure that no one in Bangladesh suffers without food. Under the prudent leadership of Sheikh Hasina, even in this global pandemic, there has been no food crisis in the country, he added.

If required, small quantity of rice will be imported from abroad, he added.

Among others, Madhupur Upazila Chairman Sarowar Alam Khan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arifa Zahura and Municipality Mayor Masud Parvez were present at the program.
