Sharif Shahab Uddin:

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the proud son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT advisor, has already proved himself as a leader with a great mission and vision by making the Digital Bangladesh initiative a success.

Following the footprint of his grandfather, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Joy has dedicated himself to the cause of the people of Bangladesh and he dreams of a better future for the nation following the development doctrine of his mother, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He has emerged like Turkish Kemal Ataturk and his Young Bangla initiative has become a main source of inspiration for the young people of Bangladesh. Leading the young generation to the right direction is one of the most challenging jobs of a national leader at a time when the young generations have been facing the risk of ruination amid the trend of nationwide extremism and the devastating anti-social activities in the society. Because of his pro-people activities, he has been able to come closer to grass-roots people by holding quite a number of central and divisional seminars in the country. He has instilled tremendous enthusiasm into members of the Young Bangla for their future course of being entrepreneurs.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, a Harvard-educated and most farsighted leader of Bangladesh, has been engaged in keeping the young people on the right track, a tremendous challenge which he was meeting very successfully by his political sagacity.

In recognition of his role as a visionary leader, Joy has been made a global leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007. He has established wide-ranging cooperation among the peace-loving nations by his global activities over the past decades.

Joy, a leader of modern outlook, has raised voices against extremism and social degradation and wrote quite a large number of articles against these viruses.

His relentless efforts and the nation-building activities have made him a leader of an extraordinary height in the country. Sajeeb Wazed Joy has emerged as the rising sun of Bangladesh.

Both Joy and Saima Wazed Hossain, the son and daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, have earned a great achievement in their respective fields and that is why our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been adjudged a Ratnagarva Maa, an honour accorded to the mother of distinguished children.

Through more than a decade of his venture at home and abroad to bring back Bangabandhu’s Awami League to power, Sajeeb Wazed Joy has become the iconic leader of Bangladesh Awami League. And much earlier before taking official responsibility, these two, Joy and Saima, became the heartthrobs of millions of supporters and activists of the ruling Awami League, and they have already proved their worth to be the leaders of the country in absence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s international links and reputation is widely appreciated by the enlightened and informed people at home and abroad. So did the case of Saima Wazed Hossain in the international community, including the UN and the other global organisations. Both Saima and Joy have become an asset for the country.

Sajeeb Wazed currently manages the communication and lobbying efforts of the Awami League in Washington. He founded the Bangabandhu Foundation of US, which provides basic healthcare and immigration assistance to needy expatriate Bangladeshis in the US.

Sajeeb Wazed is also organising the Bangabandhu Trust in Bangladesh promoting democracy and human rights issues in Bangladesh in partnership with the US administration.

Joy has always been thinking of doing something for the betterment of the nation. He has recently announced that the ICT sector will earn more than the country’s RMG industry. Bangabandhu Satellite-1 and the submarine cable project are the packages of success stories in his basket. Joy wants to take Bangladesh into the horizon of global connectivity. He recently said that as the ICT adviser to the prime minister, he is proud to say that Bangladesh now has nearly universal mobile service coverage, and the next step is 5G.

Young generation people are earning millions of dollars staying in Bangladesh and the country has got the opportunity only because of Sajeeb Wazed Joy. He has shown the light of hope to our young people who will take the responsibility of the country in the future.

Thanks to the digitisation and expansion of online services under the Digital Bangladesh vision, no one now needs to wait in queues for hours to pay utility and other bills. Students can fill in the admission forms for school, college or university at home and get test results on mobile phones, people can do banking transactions staying at home while transport has been convenient through the operation of app-based ride-hailing services. Everyone's mobile phone has now become a source of news. Digital Bangladesh vision is now a reality and it has made life easier and dynamic.

Today is the 50th birthday of Sajeeb Wazed Joy. During the Liberation War of Bangladesh on July 27, 1971, he lit up the family of nuclear scientist MA Wazed Miah and Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina. After the independence, Bangabandhu named his grandson ‘Joy’.
