Young achievers are the future leaders of Bangladesh: Sajeeb Wazed

Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said that the young entrepreneurs, who are working in remote areas for Bangladesh’s development, are the future leaders of the country.

Sajeeb Wazed distributed crests and medals of Joy Bangla Youth Award 2017 among 30 organisations at a ceremony organised by the Young Bangla at Savar’s Sheikh Hasina Youth Centre on Saturday.

“Many people ask me who will lead us in the future. I can see them in front of me now,” Joy said pointing at the young entrepreneurs.

On Friday, State Ministers Nasrul Hamid Bipu and Zunaid Ahmed Palak distributed the certificates among the recipients at the same venue.

Centre for Research and Information or CRI, Young Bangla’s secretariat, organised the contest and prize giving ceremony.

Sajeeb Wazed said the youths are working across Bangladesh in numerous ways.

“We were trying how to spread their dreams. That’s how Young Bangla was established,” he said.

“We find those young people who are working for the country. And their work has inspired me. I feel proud after seeing them and hearing their stories.”

Joy said the country’s journey took the direction opposite to the Liberation War spirit after the assassination of his grandfather Bangabandhu in 1975 and it hampered Bangladesh’s development.

He said the scenario started to change after the Awami League returned to power.

“Now we are called ‘shining star, one of the Next Eleven economies’,” he said.

Joy criticised the developed countries for their stance on the migrant issue. “They caused the war in Syria, and now they are refusing to accept the refugees,” he said.

“But we have opened our door for the Rohingyas even after being a small country.”

“No one would think we could achieve this much progress. The World Bank thought we would apologise, but we now are building the Padma Bridge with our own money,” he said.

He credited the ruling Awami League for the Padma Bridge achievement and urged all to keep the party in power for the sake of development.

“Many people ask why we can’t be like Malaysia. Those who brought independence there were in power for four to five straight terms,” he said.

“See the development we’ve brought after being in power for eight consecutive years. Bangladesh will become a developed country if we remain in power for 10 to 20 more years,” he added.

Radwan Mujib Siddiq, another grandson of Bangabandhu and a Trustee of CRI, was also present at the event.
