Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh's existence and history are involved with Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech.

"Bangladesh's existence, history everything are involved with Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech and the people of the country were energised through this speech during the war of liberation in 1971," she said.

The prime minister said this while participating in a general discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the inclusion of the historic 7th March speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the International Memory of the World Register as the World Documentary Heritage by the UNESCO.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed moved the motion in the House under the 147 of the rules of procedure.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu's March 7 speech is not mere a speech, it's an inspiration of realizing rights of the exploited and deprived people.

"It's not possible for all to understand the value of the speech and those who didn't want to understand it tried to erase it from the history ... they didn't allow to play it for 21 years," she said.

The Leader of the House said the ghosts of the Pakistani military rulers who ruled the country after assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975 tried to erase the name of the great leader.

"But the history must project the truth, it has been proved again through the recognition of Bangabandhu's speech," she said.

The prime minister said the relations between Bangabandhu and the people were the relations of soul and it had been expressed through his March 7 speech.

"Through the speech, Bangabandhu not only declared the independence of the country, he also uttered the economic emancipation of the people," she said, adding the freedom-loving people of the world still get the inspiration of their freedom.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu through the speech highlighted all necessities of the people as well as the history.

She said Pakistani military ruler could not stop playing the speech. " But it's unfortunate that this speech was banned after Bangabandhu's assassination. ...those who are the soldiers of Bangabandhu couldn't be halted," she said.

She said there is no speech in the world like March 7 address which was played thousands of times. "The people are listening to the speech for 46 years and it's yet to be old," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said but it's unfortunate that a generation was deprived of the valuable asset from 1975 to 1996. Awami League leaders and workers played the speech and many sacrificed life for it, she recalled.

The prime minister extended her sincere thanks to UNESCO and its DG Irina Bukova as well others who were involved in the process of recognition of the March 7 speech.

"I thank all who did hard labour day and night to bring the achievement," she said.
