IAEA will continue support for Bangladesh to ensure highest safety and security in the country's first nuclear power plant, he said.

“IAEA is convinced that Bangladesh has followed the IAEA guidelines for achieving the millstone step by step for installing the nuclear power plant,” Amano told reporters.

IAEA mission is working in Bangladesh, sharing best experiences and best practices for ensuring the highest safety and security in RNPP, he added.

Earlier, the IAEA DG visited RNPP site and held a meeting with Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman in presence of other officials of the ministry and the project.

The second phase work of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is going on and we are expecting that construction work of its main plant will start by the middle of September, said the minister.

Bangladesh Army has already been engaged for making security plans and they will eventually take the security charge of the RNPP, he said.
