PM's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said the much- hyped issue of signing of the Teesta water sharing deal between Bangladesh and India came up for the discussion.

They also discussed overall bilateral issues of the two countries including the transboundary water management and water sharing of the common rivers, he said.

Mamata informed the prime minister of her government's readiness to strengthen power sector cooperation with Bangladesh.

The much-hyped meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was held amidst row between Indian central government and West Bengal on signing of Teesta water sharing deal with Bangladesh which remained stagnant for last six years due to stubborn position of Mamata.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi on a four-day official visit at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

In the midst of political row between Indian ruling party with Mamata Banerjee on a number of political issues, Indian President Praban Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Mamata to come to New Delhi and join the programme with the Prime Minister of important neighboring country Bangladesh to make a way out of the deal.

In his official statement yesterday after the official talks between Dhaka and New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his firm conviction to reach a solution about signing of the Teesta deal as soon as possible.
