Published on January 2, 2017The prime minister placed wreaths on Liton's coffin after a namaz-e-janaza held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here on Sunday morning.
After placing a wreath on the coffin, she stood in solemn silence there for sometime as a mark of respect to the memory of Liton, also the president of Sundarganj upazila Awami League.
Liton was shot dead at his home in Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha on Saturday.
The premier was followed by Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in placing wreaths on the coffin as a mark of her respect to the slain lawmaker.
Flanked by senior leaders her Awami League, Sheikh Hasina being the president of the party, placed another wreath on the coffin.
Later, Deputy Speaker Fazley Rabbi Mian and Chief Whip ASM Feroz and other whips placed wreaths on the coffin.
Later, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of the slain AL lawmaker. Pesh Imam of Jatiya Sangsad Mosque Maulana Nurul Islam conducted the munajat.
Earlier, the namaz-e-janaza of Liton was held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
A large number of people including ministers, whips, MPs, and Awami League leaders attended the janaza.
Deputy Speaker Fazley Rabbi Mian, AL Presidium Members Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Syed Ashraful Islam and Dr Abdur Razzak, General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint Secretaries Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Railways Minister Mazibul Haque, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Chief Whip ASM Feroz, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, AL Organizing Secretaries Ahmad Hossain and Enamul Haque Shamim, whips, parliament members and senior officials of the Prime Minister's Office and Jatiya Sangsad joined the janaza.
Besides, AL Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury and Joint Secretary Dr Dipu Moni were present.
Before the janaza, Deputy Speaker Fazley Rabbi Mian, Chief Whip ASM Feroz, AL Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and Liton's brother-in-law (bhagnipati) Dr Abdullah Hil Bari briefly spoke on the life and works of the slain AL parliament member.
Liton was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at his village home in Gaibandha district on Saturday evening.
Doctors declared him dead minutes after he was rushed to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with bullet wounds from his home.
