"Today, I can very much proudly say that we have made 'Digital Bangladesh' from initiation to materialization by our own will, hardship, plan and money. Though few foreign companies have role, most of the digitization has been made by our native companies," he said.

Joy said, "Initially when we came out with the plan of Digital Bangladesh, many foreign organizations offered that they would make digitization in our country as they have expertise and knowledge. I told them there is no necessity of that as we have merits and skills and we ourselves will do that."

The PM"s ICT adviser was addressing a function at a city hotel organized by ICT Division of the government to accord a reception to him on his receiving the "ICT for Development Award 2016" for his far-reaching initiatives in setting Bangladesh on the road to digital world.

"I think no other country in the world like Bangladesh with much poverty got digitalized within such a very short time. Bangladesh has made it possible. Bangladesh has set an example in advancement of ICT before the entire world and comes out as an expert one."

Joy said United Nations now seeks expertise from us to digitize other poor countries. Many countries also come to us and seek cooperation to make their countries digitized.

He said the ICT for Development Award is an achievement of the Awami League government as the entire government officials and employees have worked restlessly to materialize the vision Digital Bangladesh.

"Had Awami League not in power, Digital Bangladesh would not have been possible," Joy said.

He expressed his gratitude to all officials and employees in the sector of ICT and the young generation for their endeavors to take ahead the country through the utilization of ICT.

Science and Technology Affairs Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, State Minister for ICT Affairs Zunaid Ahmed Palak and State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Advocate Tarana Halim, among others, joined the function.
