Published on August 30, 2016The approval came at the meeting of the ECNEC held in the NEC conference room in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
"Of the total projects cost, the government will provide Taka 1,932.28 crore from the national exchequer while the remaining Taka 872.72 crore will be available as project assistance," Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told journalists after the meeting.
One BRTC project envisages procurement of 300 double-decker buses, 100 single-decker AC city buses, 100 AC inter-city single-decker buses and 100 single-decker non-AC buses at Taka 580.87 crore, he said.
"Of the project cost, the government will provide Taka 146.55 crore from the national exchequer while the remaining Taka 434.32 crore from Indian Line of Credit," he added.
The minister said the meeting approved the other BRTC project for procuring 350 trucks (15-ton carrying capacity) and 150 trucks (10-ton carrying capacity) with Taka 217.35 crore.
"Of the total project cost, the government will provide Taka 58.95 crore from the national exchequer while the remaining Taka 158.40 crore will come from Indian Credit," he added.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the officials concerned to form a committee for selling the BRTC buses and trucks which are now out of order, Mustafa Kamal said.
The other approved projects are establishment of a medical college and hospital and a nursing college in Jamalpur district (Tk 716.61 crore), protection of road-cum-dam and flood control project of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) at Mirsharai in Chittagong district (Tk 1,162.77 crore) and procurement of instruments for PBI officials (Tk 127.40 crore).
Ministers and state ministers attended the meeting. Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned were present.
