BNP-Jamaat are involved in all secret killings: HPM Sheikh Hasina

"There should be no doubt in people after the Madaripur incident that BNP and Jamaat are involved in all secret killings," she said while addressing the iftar mahfil organized by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at Jatiya Press Club.

The prime minister said BNP and Jamaat are habituated to kill people in broad daylight. It's their character. They have tried to perish Joy in USA and given threat to Tulip in London.

"The war criminals who have taken shelter in UK are hatching conspiracy against Bangladesh and they are behind threat to Tulip," she said.

Urging everybody to forge unity against militants, the prime minister said Bangladesh is not a place for militants and terrorists.

Sheikh Hasina said her government believes in complete freedom of the press. However, media should play a responsible role while enjoying the freedom.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, PM's media advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, acting president of BFUJ Zafar Wajed, secretary general of BFUJ Omar Faruque, president of Jatiya Press Club Shafiqur Rahman, president of DUJ Saban Mahmud and general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury spoke on the occasion.

Cabinet members, senior government officials, editors, senior journalists and members of BFUJ and DUJ joined the iftar.

Later, the prime minister exchanged views with the senior journalists at the JPC VIP conference room.

Pointing out the verdict of Awami League leader Ahsanullah Master murder case and charge sheet of the SAMS Kibria murder case, the Prime Minister said BNP and Jamaat were responsible for those killings.

Without naming anyone, she urged the British government to take decision about an exiled BNP leader saying the killers made the UK as their safe haven. They're responsible for killing a British parliament member and giving threat to another parliament member Tulip Siddique, she said.

Prime Minister Sheikh hasina said her government has been making relentless efforts for taking the country toward prosperity. The countrymen are enjoying the benefit of the prosperity, she said adding that the government wants to create an atmosphere where media can work with freedom.

Referring to the steps taken by her Awami League government for welfare of the journalists, the Prime Minister mentioned the amendment of the criminals procedure act and constitution of the welfare trust.

Pointing out her government's initiatives for making the broadcasting policy, the Prime Minister said the objective of the policy is not controlling the media, but bringing it under a policy framework for better service.

In this regard, the Prime Minister referred to a recent BBC report on her son Sajeeb Wajzed Joy saying, "We never expect such a false news from reputed media."

Sheikh Hasina said her government is committed to the people of the country for trial of the war criminals who were responsible for genocide and who committed crimes against humanity in 1971.

Highlighting the country's development during her government's tenure, the Prime Minister said the media has also witnessed tremendous success during the time. She urged the electronic media for doing constructive criticism of the government for welfare of the country.

The Prime Minister asked the information ministry to take steps for the ninth wage board award for the journalists through discussion with the owners. She also assured the journalists of her necessary support to resolve the housing problems and build the press club as a national institution.
