"It may take time, but inshallah we will be able to bring them under control," she said urging the countrymen to keep eyes on the criminals around them as it's not difficult in a small country like Bangladesh to keep a suspicious person under surveillance.

Addressing the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting at Gonobhaban, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the party, urged the people to come forward to check the cowardly acts and resist the killers.

"Please don't play the role of an onlooker when you see that a person is under attack of the thugs. Rather, try to resist and catch the criminals," she said adding police and we will remain beside you.

Reiterating her government commitment to arrest the killers of all secret killings, she said, "Where the criminals will hide in? Each and every killer would be brought to book as we have done after 2015 mayhem," she said.

All their sources, financers and patrons of the criminals would be unearthed and brought to justice, she said.

Blasting BNP chairperson for what she said, Awami League is behind the secret killing, the Prime Minister said, "It's not me, but you, who have the habit of killing. As to why, you have repeatedly tried to kill me since my stepping in the land of Bangladesh in 1981."

Sheikh Hasina said, it's a matter of fact that Zia, Ershad and Khaleda everybody was involved with the conspiracy of killing and they have nourished the killers of Bangabandhu, rewarded them and gave them impunity from trial through enacting the indemnity ordinance.

"If we go back, we will find that the trio made the Al Badr and Razakars and collaborators of Pakistani force and war criminals the member of their cabinet and advisors," the Prime Minister said, adding that Ziaur Rahman was the man who freed the accused of notorious seven murders at Suryasen Hall of Dhaka University after independence.

"So who are the killers," she asked saying- "killing is not our propensity or profession. See your face on the mirror not only for beauty treatment, but for the past where you will see your face as a killer," Sheikh Hasina said.

Pointing out the ongoing drive against the militants and killers, the Prime Minister said her government would do everything to bring the culprits to book. She urged everybody not to show any sympathy or feel hurt for the drive against the militants.

At the beginning of the meeting General Secretary of the party Syed Ashraful Islam greeted the Prime Minister with bouquet of flowers marking her release from the jail on this day in 2008 after 11 months of imprisonment during the time of army backed caretaker government.

Recalling her days in confinement, the Prime Minister said the caretaker government came to power because of the misrule of BNP and Jamaat. But after assuming power the caretaker government started intimidation on the then opposition party Awami League.

The caretaker government arrested me without warrant, tried to send me in exile and prevent from taking part in the election apart from implicating in a number of cases on false allegations of taking extortion and killing, she said adding that the jail life had helped her chalk out country's future development plan which later got shaped as 'Vision 2021'.

Usually, she said, a government after taking office looks into the allegations of corruption and misdeeds of the immediate past government. But it had happened differently in 2007 as the caretaker government started harassing Awami League instead of taking action against the ministers of BNP-Jammat government who plunged the country into unbridled corruption.

The caretaker government even proposed me to provide with all facilities of a prime minister if I agree to their plan to defer the general election, Sheikh Hasina said adding that the caretaker government couldn't cling to power because of amazing public support to Awami League at home and abroad as well as support of the international community.

Sheikh Hasina said after taking office in 2009 her government has been pursuing a well-thought-out plan and action programmes to take Bangladesh to a new height of socioeconomic prosperity by 2021 as the time coincides with the birthday centenary of the Father of the Nation in 2020 and golden jubilee of the independence in 2021.

The Prime Minister urged the party leaders and workers to work together to implement the Vision 2021 to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu and build a hunger and poverty free Bangladesh. Our every constant and pragmatic plan and action helped Bangladesh to create its new dignified position in the world community and become a role model of development, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said BNP and its allies are out to thwart the country's achievements. They never got public support to their destructive politics. So they chose the path of killing, arson and overthrew the government undemocratically.

"Begum Zia observed the killing of people with festivity and she never expressed any remorse for those killings in 2013, 2014 and 2015," Sheikh Hasina said adding that finally she (Begum Zia) backtracked being failed to get public support to her political agenda.

'Now she resorted to secret killings, which is her new tactics to malign Bangladesh's image abroad," the Prime Minister said Highlighting the country's economic and social progress over the years, the Prime Minister said none would be able to frustrate the development if everybody works together to achieve the common goal of prosperity.
