OIC seeks Bangladesh's support to replicate Bangladesh's success in other Muslim countries

"Bangladesh has achieved impressive success in the fields of NGO, women empowerment and micro-financing and got a huge international recognition for it .... we seek help of Bangladesh, especially the Prime Minister, to replicate this success in other Islamic and Muslim countries," he said.

The OIC secretary general came up with the request when he called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Royal Conference Palace here on Saturday evening.

After the meeting, Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque and PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.

They said in response to the OIC secretary general's request, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh would extend support to these fields if the OIC comes up with a formal proposal to this end.

Highly appreciating Bangladesh's contribution to global development, Amin Madani said his organization is taking a fresh initiative after being encouraged with Bangladesh's this success.

The OIC secretary general also lauded Bangladesh's progress in women empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and said he wants to bring this issue in the OIC in a bigger way.

"We want to share Bangladesh's experiences in this regard with other Muslim countries," she said.

The Prime Minister briefed the OIC secretary general about her government's "One House One Farm" scheme terming it as a "micro saving initiative".

While talking about the Palestinian issue, Amin Madani said the OIC is going to set up a office in Ramallah to extend solidarity with the Palestinian people.

He said all OIC member states including Bangladesh have been invited to be present at the inaugural function of the office.

In this connection, Sheikh Hasina informed that her government will send a minister-level representative to represent the country at the function.

The OIC secretary general also apprised the Premier about the outcome of the last OIC Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey and said he has taken some initiatives for ensuring peace, security and development in the OIC countries.

Later, Sheikh Talal bin Ahmad Al Aqeel, advisor to the Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, called on the Prime Minister at Royal Conference Palace.

During the meeting, Aqeel highly appreciated Bangladesh government's initiatives for expansion of Islam in the country and termed the Muslims of Bangladesh as good Muslims.
