The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO) and a Korean based Hyosung Corporation to establish five sub-stations and construct 128 km, 132 kv underground sources line under DESCO area.
DESCO secretary Engineer Zulfiqar Tamim and general manager/senior manager, Global Project Business Team (Power System Performance) of Hyosung Tae-Bum Yon signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.
The state minister said that the DESCO has to improve its service quality and ensure accountability to the consumers, adding, "Environment of the DESCO would have to improve and resolve its problems."
After the signing of the MoU, the DESCO will set up five GIS grid sub-stations and construct 128 km 132 kv underground source line under its geographical areas with two separate lots.
Chairman of parliamentary standing committee on power, energy and mineral resources ministry Md Tajul Islam was present as the special guest, while Asian Development Bank's (ADB) official also spoke. A total of Taka 455 crore, financed by ADB, would be spent for the implementation of the project and Hyosung would implement the project within 18 months.
Currently, the DESCO provided service to 7,05,234 consumers and the system loss stood at 8.37 percent, while DESCO increased realization of its bill around 100 percent.
