Unified efforts needed for expansion of renewable energy: State Minister Nasrul Hamid

'Technology related to the renewable energy will be available and within reach if investment is made properly,' said the state minster. Though the steps taken by Saudi Arab's 'Pot-Petroleum Fund', IRENA(International Renewable Energy Agency) or ‘Qatar Investment Group’, more investment is needed for an infrastructure for green and clean energy, he added.

Nasrul Hamid said this while addressing at the plenary session titled "The global status quo: challenges and opportunities" held at the concluding session of the 16th Doha Forum in the Qatari capital of Doha on Monday.

He said, solar power is the future of energy sources. Gulf countries are eligible for producing solar energy as they have enough exposure to sunlight and vast land. They can work as 'Fuel Hub' and can provide solar energy to other countries.

State Minister said, Bangladesh lays utmost priorities on regional and sub-regional cooperation. Already bangladesh is importing electricity from India and talks on importing hydropower from Bhutan is going on. In reference to those initiatives, he added, expanding cooperation network can result in increasing use of renewable energy.

Energy and Minerals Resources Minister of Dominican Republic Dr Antonion Isa Cond, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia David Jalagania and former Energy and Industries Minister of Qatar Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, among others, spoke on the occasion.
