Published on May 20, 2016Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borissov witnessed the signing of the instruments which came after the two heads of governments held talks at the Council of Ministers at Sofia in the morning.
The three MoUs are: Economic Cooperation between the two governments; Cooperation between the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh; and Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperation between Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency and SME Foundation of Bangladesh.
The apex business chambers of the two countries -- Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) -- signed the agreement.
The MoU on economic cooperation was signed by Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque and Bulgarian deputy minister for Economy Daniela Vezieva on behalf of their respective governments.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Bulgaria M Allama Siddiki and Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Poriazov signed the MoU on cooperation between the diplomatic training institutes of the two countries.
The MoU on SME cooperation was inked by Bangladesh's SME Foundation Managing Director Shafiqul Islam and Executive Director of Bulgarian SME Promotion Agency Marieta Zaharieva.
First Vice President of the FBCCI Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and BCCI Secretary General Vasil Todorov penned the agreement on cooperation between the two apex chamber bodies of Bangladesh and the East European country.
Briefing reporters after the signing ceremony, the Bangladesh foreign secretary and Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim expressed their hope that the instruments would open a new of potentials in the concerned fields.
