Sheikh Hasina said her government in a meeting of Bangladesh Board of Investment (BoI) in 1999 decided to construct the Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park aimed at boosting hi-tech IT industries to create job and fetch foreign investment. "The park would be important hub for export and meet up local demand," she said.
PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Hosne Ara Begum gave a presentation on the progress of the implementation of the hi-tech parks and villages across the country.
Pointing out the government's mission and vision to develop the country as a middle income country the prime minister said the hi tech parks would ensure global standard investment climate and employment opportunities.
The parks are being developed with a target to create one million job and five billion dollar export in IT sector by 2021. The Kaliakoir hi-tech park to be set up on 355 acres of land under PPP basis would create one lakh job.
A three-storied administrative building has already been constructed while 4.27 kilometer internal road has been constructed at Kaliakoir. Besides, power substation and 2.5 kilometer HT line, fibre optic connection, telephone exchange and boundary wall of the park has been completed, the MD said.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, PM's ICT Affairs Advisor Sajeeb Wajed Joy, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibur Rahman Chunnu, Executive Chairman of BoI SA Samad, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, PM's Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad and secretaries concerned were present.
The meeting also discussed the progress of Jessore Software Technology Park, Janata Tower Technology Park in Dhaka, Mohakhali IT Village, Sylhet Electronics City, Barindra Silicon City in Rajshahi and IT Training and Incubation Centre in Comilla, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Nilphamari, PM's press secretary said.
