Published on March 7, 2016To face the enemies, he (Bangabandhu) directed the countrymen to be ready with whatever they had and get prepared for struggle of freedom, she said in a message on the eve of the historic March 7.
The Prime Minister said the day is a memorable one in the thousand-year history of the Bangalee nation as Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on this day in 1971 made a clarion call to the people to fight for liberation.
She said Bangabandhu in his extempore speech at the Race Course Maidan (Suhrawardy Udyan) declared "Ebarer Sangram Amader Muktir Sangram, Ebarer Sangram Swadhinatar Sangram -Joy Bangla", echoing the demands of the masses.
After only 17 days of the March 7 speech, the Father of the Nation had proclaimed the independence in the early hours of March 26, 1971 when the Pakistani junta started genocide on the fateful night of March 25, she added.
As a sequel to this, the nation achieved the ultimate victory on December 16 through the nine months of armed struggle, the Prime Minister said.
Sheikh Hasina noted that the political analysts across the world rated the March 7 historic speech by Bangabandhu as one of the excellent speeches so far delivered by world leaders.
In every fold of the speech, she said, the necessity and aspiration for the emergence of a state were reflected.
"The directives given by Bangabandhu in this speech were the basic elements of the national unity at that time," she said, adding that this historic speech was the source of enormous strength of the nation during the Liberation War.
This speech of Bangabandhu clearly portrayed the picture of repression by the Pakistani rulers on the Bengali people and anguish of the whole nation against the deprivation of Pakistan as well, she said, adding that this speech bears tremendous significance in the history of Bangladesh.
She urged the people to forge a greater unity once again like the historic March 7 to fulfill the desired goal of development through implementing the vision-2021 and the vision-2041.
