Published on February 9, 2016The inter-district road connection- Mymensingh and Netrokona Districts Part involving Taka 457.30 crore, would boost connectivity and facilitate trade between Bangladesh and neighboring India.
The projects were approved at the 20th ECNEC meeting in the current fiscal held at the NEC conference room in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, after the meeting, briefed the journalists about the outcome.
"Of the total project cost of 2,865 crore, the government would provide Taka 1,536 crore from the national exchequer while the remaining Taka 1,328 crore would come as project assistance," he added.
State Minister for Finance and Planning M A Mannan was present at the briefing.
The Planning Minister informed newsmen that per capita income also increased slightly to $1316 from $1314 due to slight rise of GDP growth to 6.55 per cent in the last fiscal (2014-15) from the provisional figure of 6.51 per cent.
According to the Planning Commission, Roads and Highways Department will implement the Inter- District Border Road Construction project by June 2019.
The project will be implemented at Durgapur and Kalmakanda upazilas of Netrakona and Haluaghat and Dhobaura upazilas of Mymensingh.
Under the project, an 80-kilometer road will be constructed as part of the 214 kilometer long Sunamganj- Netrakona- Mymensingh- Sherpur- Jamalpur road.
In Netrakona part, the proposed border road begins at Moheshkhola, the connecting point of Sunamganj and Netrakona, and ends at Tinali area on Birishiri-Bijoypur land port road.
Another 44 kilometer road in Mymensingh part (Hatipagar-Bijoypur) is a connecting road for the bordering districts.
The other projects approved in the meeting are Construction of 1490 meter long PC Girder Bridge over Teesta River on the connecting road of Pachpir Bazar-Chilmari and upazila headquarters of Sundarganj in Gaibandha district, 1st revised with Tk 730.85 crore, establishment of National Livestock and Poultry management institute and disease investigation laboratory, 2nd revised with Tk 42.80 crore, CHT complex construction project at Bailey road in the capital with Tk 102.33 crore, Digging Mobarakpur oil/gas exploration well with Tk 87.46 crore, Narsingdi BSCIC industrial estate expansion project with Tk 76.85 crore and Protection of Polder 56/57 from the River erosion of Meghna at Doulatkhan and Borhanuddin upazilas under Bhola district with Tk 551.50 crore.
Ministers and State Ministers attended the meeting while Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned were present.
