"The country achieved the international recognition thanks to the present government's tremendous success in the development of agriculture and food under the charismatic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," a press release said on Wednesday.
The election to the UN body was held at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday where all UN members elected Bangladesh unanimously, the release said.
Through this election, it said, the global confidence in Bangladesh's agricultural development has been consolidated further.
The experts hope that Bangladesh would get more inspiration in further uplift in the agriculture sector through the global recognition.
Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina achieved stunning success in agriculture and food production over the last seven years.
Despite increasing population and declining farmland, Bangladesh has become self-reliant in food and started exporting rice.
A huge number of agro-based industries have been set up in the country thanks to rise in export of agri products every year.
The food security for the people has been ensured as the production of food grains reached to about four crore tonnes per year.
The rural poverty has declined to a great extent, and Bangladesh has been turned into a "role model" for its impressive uplift in socioeconomic field.
