She also called for finding a path for the best possible advancement of the migrants and for securing a concept for their wellbeing and dignity.

The Premier said this when a seven-member UN delegation on migration, led by Sir Peter Sutherland, special representative of the UN Secretary-General for International Migration called on her at her Sangsad Bhaban office here on Wednesday.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister emphasized on safe migration and said protection of the migrants caused by economic reasons, disasters and other vulnerabilities is a global responsibility.

In this regard, she appreciated the role of the UN secretary-general's special representative, saying his work has given a new dimension to the migration issue.

Pointing out the present human sufferings in differing parts of the world, she said, "We have to give special attention to the women and children suffering severe cold."

Sir Peter praised the role of Bangladesh on migration issue and said they are happy to work with Bangladeshi colleagues on the issue.

He requested the Prime Minister to play a role for taking a pragmatic decision on safe migration at the special UN session prior to this year's UN General Assembly (UNGA).

Sheikh Hasina pointed out her life in exile after the brutal killing of Bangabandhu in 1975 and said she and her sister Sheikh Rehana were compelled to take refuge in Europe and India for six years as the rulers barred them from entering the country.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, PM's Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Gowher Rizvi, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haq, PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and Expatriates Welfare Secretary Khandakar Mohammad Iftekhar Haider were present.
