Published on January 10, 2016The Prime Minister handed over a cheque for Taka five lakh as financial assistance to ailing Rani Sarker at her official Ganobhaban residence here this afternoon.
PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters that hearing the plight and sufferings of Rani Sarkar, who has been suffering from "cholelithiasis", the Prime Minister also provided Taka 50,000 in cash.
She also made arrangements for sending two sacks of rice and some fish and vegetables from Ganobhaban to the residence of the ailing actress to meet her immediate needs, the press secretary said.
The Prime Minister talked to Rani Sarkar and enquired about her wellbeing. She also consoled her and at one stage embraced her. At that time, Rani Sarkar became emotional and broke into tears.
It's not for the first time that the Premier came forward to the help of Rani Sarkar. She earlier gave Taka 20 lakh as financial assistance to the ailing actress.
It may be mentioned that after the independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman alloted a house at 22/3 Babar Road in Mohammadpur in the capital for Rani Sarkar. But she was evicted from that residence after the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina today provided Taka 10 lakh as financial assistance to ailing popular film actress Parveen Sultana Diti.
She handed over a cheque for the amount to Diti's daughter and son Lamia Chowdhury and Shafayat Chowdhury at Ganobhaban this afternoon.
During the time, the Prime Minister enquired about the wellbeing and overall health conditions of Diti from her daughter and son.
Diti has been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka after her return from the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology -(MIOT) at Chennai, India, on Friday where she underwent operation twice for brain tumour.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present on the occasion.
