Published on December 13, 2015In a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office here on Sunday, Kaushik Basu, also the senior vice president of the World Bank said Bangladesh is achieving tremendous economic growth over the last five to six years, which is rare in the world.
Briefing reporters after the meeting PM's Press Secretary Ehsanul Karim said they discussed different aspects of the Bangladesh's economy.
The prime minister said her government has adopted a policy for country's economic development and set targets under the policy. "The government has given priority to private sector to expedite economic development and employment generation," she said.
Sheikh Hasina said economic development of rural people is very crucial and in view of this the government has established Palli Sanchaya Bank. The government has given importance to food processing and is giving encouragement to set up food processing industries.
The prime minister pointed out Bangladesh's advancement on agricultural research saying local scientists are doing very good job. Their new innovation helped producing surplus food and created opportunities to increase the production further.
PM's advisors Dr Gowher Rijvi, Dr Moshiur Rahman, Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, ERD senior secretary Mejbah Uddin Ahmed and Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman were present.
