Published on November 14, 2015The assurance came when visiting ADB Vice President Wencai Zhang paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganobhaban residence here this afternoon.
After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
The ADB vice-president said the bank also wants to support inter-connecting sub-regional power grid system under Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal inter-regional economic cooperation.
"Besides, we also want to extend support for developing agro-processing industries in Bangladesh as well as for the development of its infrastructure for transit-transshipment to boost trade facilities in the region," he said.
Wencai Zhang also highly appreciated the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hoped that Bangladesh would be a high middle-income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister thanked the ADB vice president, noting that the bank is always supportive to Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina said her government placed emphasis on building cluster villages to save agricultural land while it has been working to further reduce the gap between the rich and the poor.
About the agro-processing sector, the Prime Minister said the farmers could be involved to a great extent in vegetable and fish processing and poultry sectors which will help strengthen their economic footing./
Referring to her government's open investment policy for the private sector entrepreneurs, Sheikh Hasina said various sectors including power and energy, telecommunications and TV are doing business comfortably.
She said the government is providing lands for setting up economic zones where the investors will build their industries.
Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Senior ERD Secretary Mohammad Mejbah Uddin were present, among others.
