Posts and Telecommunications secretary Md Faizur Rahman Chowdhury and managing director of Teletalk, Md Giasuddin Ahmed handed over the SIM to Joy. The adviser too surprised everyone by paying for it from his wallet.
"Today Bangladesh became the second country in the world to adopt the biometric system of registering mobile SIM. That is why I am feeling very proud," he said.
"I just had some desire and dream to do something for the people of the country by implementing Digital Bangladesh. I just made some advises, you people implemented it. So the credit goes to you," he added.
While speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Division Advocate Tarana Halim, MP, said the formal process will begin on December 16, with all the mobile phone operators installing the system in their respective outlets.
Lauding the role played by Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser in the development of the relevant sector, the state minister said recently Bangladesh won ITU award for sustainable development in ICT.
After the informal inauguration ceremony, the ICT Affairs Adviser attended a meeting on the progress made in the activities of the division and review of the projects implemented. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the division and concerned departments.
