Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the elder sister of Sheikh Russell, attended the doa mahfil.
Former minister and Publicity and Publication Secretary of Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud, MP, former minister and AL's Liberation War Affairs Secretary Capt (retd) AB Tajul Islam, MP, AL central committee members SM Kamal Hossain and Aminul Islam Amin as well as family members and relatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina including Sheikh Maruf, Sheikh Jewel and Barrister Sheikh Fazley Noor Taposh, MP, joined the doa mahfil.
Besides, officials of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and Prime Minister's Office took part in the doa mahfil.
A special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Russell as well as Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
The participants in the doa mahfil also prayed for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana.
Maulana Liakat Hossain, imam of Sobhanbagh Mosque, conducted the munajat.
On this day in 1964, Sheikh Russell was born in the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 in Dhaka.
On the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, Sheikh Russell along with most of the family members of Bangabandhu was brutally killed by the enemies of humanity.
