The Prime Minister received the sitar from Kazi Shamsuddin Bachchu, a friend of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Ganobhaban here this afternoon, PM's Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan told BSS.
Bachchu's father Kazi Abu Naser, who was very close to Bangabandhu's family, presented the sitar to Sheikh Kamal. Later, Sheikh Kamal gave the sitar to Bachchu to repair it from India.
But in the meantime the tragic assassination of Sheikh Kamal took place on August 15 in 1975.
The sitar was later preserved at the residence of Bachchu at Tejkunipara in Dhaka. After long 40 years, Bachchu today handed over the sitar to Sheikh Hasina for displaying it at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhaka.
Kazi Moinuddin Raj, brother of Bachchu, and artist Kuhu were present on the occasion.
