The approval was given in the 110th meeting of the NICAR at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the Mymensingh Division will be constituted with Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrokona districts. The area of the division would be 10,584 square kilometers with a population of about one crore 13 lakh and 70 thousands.
NICAR has also given approval to a proposal for constitution of Bhandaria Pourasabha in Pirojpur, proposal for expansion of the boundary of Homna Pourasabha in Comilla and a proposal for constitution of Bangura Bazar Thana in Muradpur upazila in Comilla.
In January this year the cabinet approved in principle for constitution of Mymensingh, Comilla and Faridpur divisions, and constituted a nine- member committee headed by Secretary of Cabinet Division (Coordination and Reforms) Nazrul Islam.
The committee has given a five-point recommendation to the government and the Mymensingh Division has been constituted in the light of the recommendations of the committee, the cabinet secretary said adding the journey of the division will begin with Divisional Commissioner Office and Range DIG of Police Office.
Later, offices of all other departments would be constructed there.
